a club for the city
one of the biggest challenges our players face is gaining access to opportunities for high-level soccer close enough to easily get to. it's tough to get around if a parent isn't available to drive you to practice or doesn't have a car.
in an effort to eliminate a barrier that has previously stood in the way of our players getting the training they need, open goal project offers free, high-level training for our players.
the sessions, which are led by OGP Executive Director and former MLS player Amir Lowery, are within walking distance of where many of our players live. we believe these training sessions will remove long trips as a barrier to participation and growth and will provide our players with yet another opportunity to continue to improve on the pitch.
our free clinics and practices are simultaneously serving the purpose of tryouts to identify the city's most talented players that have been priced out of travel soccer. in the spring of 2018 our inaugural club teams will begin league play under the banner of D.C.F.C.
