Open Goal Project coaches USA's Street Child World Cup team in Moscow

in late 2017, we at Open Goal Project started the process of assembling a team of nine DC SCORES alumni girls to fly to Russia to represent the United States at the Street Child World Cup in Moscow in partnership with America SCORES and the National Network For Youth. Open Goal was tasked with coaching the team, and also coordinating with the players and their families ahead of the trip. countless calls, meetings, forms, home visits, passport office visits, visa office visits and coordination with families, the ladies headed to Russia, with our Executive Director Amir Lowery as coach.

just before they left for Moscow, DC United and Adidas surprised our girls with incredible new gear:

we believe in using soccer as a vehicle for growth and greater life experiences for our players, leveraging the game for personal growth, cultural enrichment and increased social awareness and traveling to Moscow to participate in an international event presented a unique opportunity to do just that.

our team of young women representing the US faced off against teams like Brazil, Egypt, Mexico and Tanzania, while also participating in conferences and events focused on global issues with teams from more than 20 different countries.

a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and an incredible victory for our players and our mission.
