Open Goal Project, Chevron, LAFC Team Up For Chevron Soccer Academy in Los Angeles

this past weekend around 250 boys and girls from Hawthorne in Los Angeles came out to Cal State LA to be coached by a dozen former men’s and women’s professional soccer, with vast experience competing in MLS, NWSL, FIFA World Cups, and other international competitions, as part of the Chevron Soccer Academy presented by Chevron, Open Goal Project, and LAFC.

the girls combine took place on Saturday and the boys played on Sunday. to make the weekend accessible to our newest players from LA and to make the experience a unique one, the day was completely free of charge, lunch and transportation to and from the stadium was provided, and off the field, players got to experience the Chevron STEM Zone where they were empowered to learn about science through the lens of soccer.
with our incredibly diverse staff made up of men’s and women’s coaches from the United States, Canada, Honduras, and Mexico, the boys and girls were given a genuine chance to engage with role models they could relate to.

yet another amazing weekend and a big step forward for our mission to provide access and high-level opportunities for talented young soccer players from underserved communities. a big thanks to Chevron for our continuing partnership in helping us open goals. even the field, change the game ❤️⚽️❤️
