Our Mission

The Challenge

Young soccer players from marginalized communities face systemic barriers, including high costs, language barriers, and transportation challenges, which prevent them from accessing high-level soccer opportunities.

Our Mission

Open Goal Project’s mission is to to create opportunities for young players from marginalized communities to access high-level soccer and grow with the game, on and off the field, to provide resources that empower those players and families to navigate the costs and overcome hidden barriers associated with playing, and to use soccer as a vehicle for upward social mobility, higher educational opportunities, greater life experiences, and improved long-term health outcomes.

We stand firm in our belief that growing with the beautiful game as athletes and as individuals should not depend on where our players live, the language they speak, or how much money their families make.

Our Method

We eliminate systemic barriers by offering 100% free-to-play programs within walking distance of public transportation. Staffed with professional coaches, community mentors, and bilingual leaders, our unique model provides logistical support and resources that empower players and their families to overcome obstacles that have previously prevented them from participating. By doing so, we ensure that high-level soccer - and the youth development benefits that come with playing the game - are accessible to all.

Our Vision

Our vision is a world where every talented soccer player, regardless of their socioeconomic background, has the opportunity to excel. We envision a truly merit-based US youth soccer landscape, where the game serves as a vehicle for not only talent development, but also cultural enrichment, educational opportunities, character development, and life-changing experiences.
